Suffused with light, this contemporary home sits on a ridge with views of the Adirondacks and the Green Mountains.
It’s a good practice to think ahead. As you can see from the light streaming in from the windows, this super-insulated home has a near perfect southern exposure – ideal for solar panels. But they weren’t in the budget, so we made it solar panel ready.
At the same time, why throw away free heat? Notice the dark, vertical just above the chair in the last photo (Hall photo). This is the edge of a thick, masonry wall along the hallway. During the winter, when the sun is low, it catches sunlight to heat the home passively.
Meanwhile, deep exterior overhangs shield the wall from the high summer sun.
