At least as important as building the new sustainably, wherever possible, we must bring existing housing stock up to a sustainable standard, a standard respectful of resources, of what already exists.
In that spirit, this late 1950s split level is now a passive house (PHIUS), meaning it generates as much energy it uses. A small addition in the back will also allow the owners to live on one level if and when the need arises.
